Writing about sexualized violence
Costs: 12/18 CHF, no booking required, in German
Conversation with writer Lana Lux and Agota Lavoyer, expert on sexualized violence, in cooperation with the Literaturhaus Basel
Writer Lana Lux and nonfiction author Agota Lavoyer will discuss their books with curator Dr. Sandra Beate Reimann at Museum Tinguely. In their works, the authors have analyzed mechanisms and patterns of sexualized violence and contributed to bringing the topic into the public discourse in German-speaking regions. The Cartas de Mujeres project’s letters and the writing about violence are also central themes in Suzanne Lacy’s video installation displayed at the museum. We take this as an opportunity to discuss the role of language and writing in addressing gender-based violence.
Lana Lux
Lana Lux is a German-speaking writer, illustrator, and moderator of Ukrainian-Jewish descent. Born in 1986 in Dnipro, she emigrated to the Ruhr area in 1996 and has lived in Berlin since 2010. In her 2024 novel Geordnete Verhältnisse (Ordered Relations), she describes the development of a relationship from friendship to a romantic relationship increasingly marked by anger, obsession, and violence, taking the perspective of both parties involved.
Agota Lavoyer
Agota Lavoyer works as a consultant, speaker, and author advocating for better support for victims of sexualized violence and for the prevention of sexualized violence. As a victim support counselor, she has accompanied hundreds of victims in recent years. Her 2024 nonfiction book Jede_Frau. Über eine Gesellschaft die sexualisierte Gewalt verharmlost und normalisiert (Every_Woman. On a Society That Downplays and Normalizes Sexualized Violence) became a Swiss nonfiction bestseller. In it, she outlines the extent of sexualized violence and criticizes the societal handling of the issue.
